We landed at Beijing Airport at 1am from Inner Mongolia and checked into the hotel at about 2 am. I had prior emailed the hotel on the late check in. I question the training and quality the counter personnel. The rude customer service and poor attitude of the gentlemen manning the night shift is less than acceptable.
My partner only had with her a recently expired China photo identity card. Chinese Authorities requires all hotel guest to be registered (we understood this). The Airport Authority allowed my partner to fly into Beijing airport although her Photo ID card had expired.
The counter staff insist that we go to the nearest police post to re-validate the photo ID card.
We explained that it just expired and the airport authority allow her to fly and we requested for next day re-validation. However, this was refused.
We had to walk 1.5 miles to the nearest police post in freezing temperature to re-validate the photo ID then returned to complete hotel check in.
The more frustrating thing is that the police officer checked and advise the photo ID while showing a expired date is still valid document and asked that we returned to hotel. Fortunately, we have the Hilton concierge with us as a witness to respond to the check in counter staff.
On return to the hotel, the counter staff expressed his doubt and informed us at the counter how can this be that the police officer informed that the photo ID is still valid for use.
Fortunately, we have the Hilton concierge as a witness. Only when the concierge spoke up then he relented and we checked in.
By this time it was nearly 3am!
